You have entered the photographic world of James Sandman Photography. In the following pages you will encounter some of the work that is the product of my unbridled passion for finding images in our everyday encounters and capturing them for all to see and enjoy.
Memorable photography requires a number of qualities that we all have but don't necessarily pay attention to. Cartier-Bresson said that one must have patience to wait for "the decisive moment" when all things are right to take the picture. One must also have courage to get closer to a subject for, paraphrasing Robert Capa, if the picture isn't good enough, then one wasn't close enough. One must also be willing to spend time and study the works of the old masters of photography. I recently read an unnamed quote that bears sharing: "A great photographer told me that the secret to becoming a great photographer is to surround yourself with the best photography available."
A great camera does not make a great photograph. Rather, the camera is simply a tool that when put in the right hands, will facilitate a significant image. Perhaps you will find these photographs to be as significant for you to view as they were for me to take.
